The main research activities include:

• modern architectures of distributed Internet systems including Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), multitier Internet systems, client-server, distributed object systems, grid architectures,
• integration of distributed services,
• parallelization of algorithms and cluster systems for high performance computing,
• platforms and tools for development of parallel and distributed applications including MPI, PVM, Globus Toolkit, JEE, Web Services, JME.
• design and development of network applications for mobile devices,
• intelligent spaces and pervasive computing,
• applications of artificial intelligence,
• information systems for the society.

The department cooperates with several universities and firms in Poland and abroad. The department takes part in many Polish scientific grants and those funded by the EU. The current grants deal with strategies for service management in distributed environments, strategies for development of domain ontologies and methodologies for development of applications in spaces with generic services.
