Department in brief...

Biomedical Engineering Department (since 2003; earlier named the Department of Medical and Ecological Electronics) was established in June 1991, at first, as division of ElectronicTechnology Institute, and after the reorganisation of ETI Faculty structure, it has been working as an independent unit. In 2002 Department was reworded with diploma of Polish Ministry of Science and Information, also in cooperation with number of other units, obtained status of Center of Medical Technologies (CEMET) in medical technique range.

From the beginning, the Department's scientific interest was concentrate on evolution of modern diagnostic method in medicine, particularly in range of bioimpedance, thermal, informatics technique and sensors.

Practically, a wide range of work on development of measuring and diagnostic technique is being realised in each of leading science project and in co-operation with many units of Medical Academy and hospitals in Gdańsk, in range of its clinical usable. There has been 18 research projects financed by KBN (State Committee for Scientific Research) and several projects of international co-operates with number of scientific centres from Belgium, Denmark, France, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and USA., at present.

There were a number of international science workshops and conferences organised by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, particularly, national conference on Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering (three) and the XII International ICEBI & V EIT.
At the time of th Department activity, there were promoted of two professor assistans and 12 doctors of engineering science, and the Department also contributed to the number of such promotions in AMG (Medical Academy of Gdańsk). Department's staff have been rewarded with range of prestigious priced, i.e. Andronicos Kantsios Award 2001 in Orlando and Siemens Price in 2004.
