About ...

Born in Gdańsk, Poland in 1953. Graduate of the School of Mechanics and Electricity (TME) in Gdańsk in 1973. In 1978 received his MSc degree, and in 1986  his PhD degree, both in Automatic Control from the Gdansk University of Technology (GUT), Poland. In 1993 achieved his DSc degree (Dr Habilitus) in Automatic Control from the Silesian Technical University in Gliwice, Poland. The Title of Professor was assigned to him by the President of Poland in 2003. In 2007 he was appointed to the position of a Tenured/Full Professor of GUT. Since 1978 he have been with the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunication and Computer Science (Department of Automatic Control) at GUT, where since 1996 he works as a Professor, currently a Full Professor in the discipline of Automatic Control and Robotics. In 2006 he established a Department of Decision Systems.

He hold visiting appointments at University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland in 1985, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia in 1987, Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany in 1989, and at George Mason University, Fairfax (VA), U.S.A., in 1990-1991, where he was a Research Associate and an Adjunct Professor.

His main fields of research interests include adaptive and predictive control, system identification, failure detection, signal processing, artificial intelligence, cognitive decision-making systems, control engineering and computer science; he is also concerned with systems description, modeling and computer implementation. He has authored and co-authored over 300 publications and 13 books, incl. WNT 2002, Springer 2004 (see My Publications for details) .

He had an opportunity to serve in several community capacities, including a member of Program Committees or Central Boards of numerous conferences (see My English CV for details), journals:  International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science   ( http://www.amcs.uz.zgora.pl/ ; http://www.versita.com/science/computerscience/amcs/ ) since 1999; Measurements, Automatic Control and Monitoring (since 2002); Institutions or Societies: Committee for Automation and Robotics of the Polish Academy of Science (http://kair.pan.pl/) since 2007; Polish Consultants Society (http://www.konsulting.gda.pl) since 2003; Hewelianum , Pomeranian Center for Promotion of Science and Technology (http://www.grodzisko.pl) since 2004; Polish Society for Measurements, Automatic Control and Robotics POLSPAR (http://www.ire.pw.edu.pl/polspar) since 2004; as well as a chairman and co-chairman of national symposia on control and diagnostics, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE (Control Systems Society, Computational Intelligence Society: http://www.kik.pcz.czest.pl/ieee/ ) since 1996.  He is also the Founder and  </span>Editor-in-Chief and of the Pomeranian Science and Technology Publishers (PWNT: http://www.konsulting.gda.pl/pwnt/ ).

Moreover, he had delivered above 30 invited lectures and performed over 400 reviews for international journals and conferences. He supervised 5 doctoral thesis and gave over 30 recommendations for scientific promotions (PhD and DSc thesis, as well as Professor Titles), and a number of books.

He was a recipient of 1990 and 2003 Research Excellence Awards of Polish National Education Ministry, and a 1999 Polish National Science Foundation Award in Automatic Control (the so-called National Nobel Prize).
