Department of Marine Electronic Systems
Research

The main scientific domain of the Department of Marine Electronic Systems is underwater acoustics (hydroacoustics), in particular the analysis and design of underwater acoustic systems, ultrasonic transducers and underwater acoustic antennae as well as the study of acoustic waves propagation in the sea and inland waters. Research is also performed in the field of theoretical acoustics, signal processing and ultrasonic technology.

The academic and technical staff of the Department has a strong, long-term experience in building underwater acoustic systems, ranging from analysis and design, and ending with the complete performance of utility models, prototypes and short-series production. In these systems a wide use is made of advanced digital signal processing methods, modern imaging techniques and other current achievements of the electronic technology. The construction of underwater acoustic systems built in the Department is compatible with high requirements of maritime and air transport standards.

Research work conducted in the Department of Marine Electronic Systems include the following topics:

  • spatial filtering (beamforming, scanning),
  • estimation of spatial spectrum,
  • detection and parameter estimation of underwater acoustic signals,
  • underwater acoustic antennae,
  • theoretical acoustics,
  • propagation of acoustic signals in shallow waters,
  • techniques of display of underwater acoustic signals,
  • optimization of underwater acoustic signals and systems,
  • ultrasonic measurement techniques.

The Department performs the design, programming and construction in the areas of:

  • underwater acoustic active and passive systems (sonars, echosounders, meters of sound speed, docking, etc.),
  • theoretical acoustics,
  • low-power analog circuits (amplifiers, filters, generators, mixers, control circuits, etc.)
  • high power systems (pulsed power amplifiers, power supplies),
  • digital systems,
  • microprocessor devices,
  • real time computer systems,
  • digital signals display sets,
  • digital signals recording and transmission equipment,
  • ultrasonic transducers and underwater acoustic antennae.
